A weekend in Vienna

Nat, Preeti, Maike and Eugenio joined me for a weekend in Vienna. As my parents are Down Under, we had Sturmfreie Bude at my parents place. The 7 hour train ride from Frankfurt to Vienna was not that bad after all. Rathausplatz, Spittelberg, Hofburg, City - we even had a Fiaker - ride in Schönbrunn (kein Wiener würde sich freiwillig in einen Fiaker setzen) - but than again, I am Hungarian :-) Also some filthy ladies for Paul ...
ps: check out the jumping photos!!! (Donkey Chain)

Fantasy Filmfest Frankfurt - part 4

Casshern is a movie about life and death, war, heroism, greed, the right to live and so much more. Sometimes a bit long, but this combination of war movie, anime and fantasy will simply take your breath away. Check out the japanese trailer here.

Fantasy Filmfest Frankfurt - part 3
OK. I admit - Friday was a bit crazy. Two weird movies on one evening is a bit tough - but than again it is not every week that these kind of movies are shown in Frankfurt ;-)
So first in the "I can see dead people" category a movie called THEY CAME BACK (LES REVENANTS) where all the dead people from the last 10 years simply return one day. A very slow movie with a bang at the end - quite interesting, no big surprises though. Makes you think ...
Primer was supposed to be a movie that is much talked about in the US at the moment. Big hipe. The idea of the movie is pretty amazing actually (no spoilers here) but I lost track of the events somewhere in between. I guess I will have to watch it again to fully understand.

Fantasy Filmfest Frankfurt - part 2

to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the japanese original Godzilla movies they made this Godzilla - final wars movie. A movie with all the past monsters fighting against Godzilla - even the hollywood version got a cameo appearance. It is brutally funny and full of stereotypes of stupid americans. I want the DVD - it would give a nice video background to a party :-)

Fantasy Filmfest Frankfurt - part 1

The 19. Fantasy Filmfest opened today in Frankfurt with Sin City at 22:30 in Cinestar Metropolis. An amazing movie by Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado). Absolutely stunning shot in black and white with very little colours. Three short stories brought together to introduce us to the world of Sin City - a comic book by Frank Miller. An absolute must-see. Also the soundtrack is amazing. 4 Thumbs up from me!

Owen Wilson's nose

The only thing in Hollywood more interesting than Owen Wilson's career may be Owen Wilson's nose. It's a wonder to behold: a twisting, swollen ski slope; a special effect that seems to expand and change angles with the light. He broke it first in ninth grade, then again playing football at the University of Texas. Has he considered having it fixed? "I get bombarded with those questions," he says. "I must look like a freak, but if I were to change it I would get so much grief from my brothers."

Sneak Preview - Don't come knocking
The most interesting fact about this movie can be found on www.imdb.com:
The picture of Sky's mother is a photography of Sarah Polley's own mother, Diane Polley. Diane, who died in 1990, was a huge fan of Sam Shepherd. Shepherd plays the father of Sarah's character in the film. That about tells it. This is the most boring and foreseenable slimiest happyend movie I have ever seen in my whole life. Fat Albert is a piece of art compared to this movie.
Nice visuals though:

Sneak Preview - The skeleton key

altough I did not see the first 5 minutes of the movie, everything was clear in the end. Another horror movie in the long history of sneak horror movies in Turmpalast. Although this time it was more suspense than bloody. The story was quite cool in the end as it was not what I thought it would be ... If you are not scared of ghosts, worth seeing. Check out the official website here

madagascar

None of the main character animals (lion, zebra, giraffe or hippo) are actually housed at the New York Central Park Zoo.
There are penguins though.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

not much happening this week. Reading the new Harry Potter book instead of going to the gym. (looks like I will have to blame my weight on reading now ...)
Update Thursday:
Gabor: Blanca, are you reading Harry Potter?
Blanca: No, I want to stay a Potter virgin!

Sneak Preview - 11:14

11:14 was the closing film of the Fantasy Film Fest in 2003 in Stuttgart - and after 2 years it finally hits the theatres in Europe. One of those movies where you don't know how all the little storylines connect until the very end of the movie. Lots of small and big names (Patrick Swayze, Rachel Lee Cook, Hillary Swank, ...) in funny and sometimes disturbing scenes. All in all a nice sneak preview night in the non-air-conditioned Turmpalast.
Also if you want to see what became of little Elliott (from E.T.) look for the guy in the opening scene ...

Sneak Preview - The Upside Of Anger

This Monday we saw The Upside Of Anger at the Sneak Preview. A very cool and slow and emotional and funny and chilly movie about a lot of broken people who live next to and with each other. The ending was a bit strange, but all-in-all a very enjoyable movie. Plus Kevin Costner is simply great in this movie.
Again it is time for some marketing activities. The Sneak Preview in Turmpalast shows a 'surprise' movie every Monday at 21:00 - it is a movie that is not running yet - but you don't know which one ...
On the brighter side it only costs 4 Euros!!! If you want to join in on the fun, let me know...
